The
Fox
The Fox

After an indoor investigation, we were feeling like a romp through a cemetery for old time sake. After all, it was cemetery
hopping that got us into this business. We decided to go to the Grand Junction Municipal Cemetery - a large cemetery,
located at the top of Orchard Mesa in Grand Junction, CO.  While driving to our favorite parking spot, we saw a fox
inside the fence. We found it peculiar that a fox was in the cemetery...especially sine the Grand Junction area is more
prone to coyotes, not foxes. We parked the car and set up our equipment, preparing to capture anything that may be
lurking in the shadows. Before we were completely set up, out comes the fox.

Because foxes typically stay away from humans, we were under the initial impression that this fox was probably being
fed somewhere by humans, thus his lack of fear when he approached us. He would not get closer than ten feet from us
and we decided to try to get some pictures of it. Using the night vision video camera, our "Rookie" tried to film this
fearless critter. Soon after he turned the camera on to film, the picture temporarily malfunctioned on the camera. We
say temporarily, because it was fully operational once we returned to the car. However, it still recorded sound. Without
the video camera, we diligently worked on getting still photos of this fox. We could clearly see him in the view finder
screen, however he was not in the actual pictures. Finally, we got out our last resort: the Polaroid. We actually prefer to
work with Polaroid cameras since they cannot be altered during processing, and create less controversy from those
"non-believers" that heckle us from time to time. The film expense however cannot always be justified, so we have
succumbed to the age of the digital camera. Even with the Polaroid, we could not capture the "fox" that was standing
ten feet away from us. Taking into consideration that it was "a dark and stormy night..." we tried a different approach.
We turned on the car's headlights to illuminate this "fox". Again, out came the Polaroid. With the headlights of the car
and Polaroid in hand we were able to capture the eyes of this magnificent being. Just the eyes. No body.

Most of our research comes in the form of analyzing data collected with electronic instruments that have not been seen
by the naked eye. This was most certainly different. We have not completely eliminated the possibility that it was an
actual fox and the environmental conditions were interfering with our cameras. Since this was such an unusual
experience, we have decided to include it in our research archives for our web site or future use by us. After
contemplating this event for several hours, we decided to do a little Internet research and discovered this interesting
page that
could be related to our experience. http://www.zerotime.com/night/skinwalk.htm
The Fox was in the center of this picture when it was taken.
The Fox was sitting in front of the brick wall on the right hand side when this picture was
taken.
We have drawn an arrow to indicate the pair of eyes we were finally able to capture with the
Polaroid.
