The Hotel Colorado is one of our very most favorite places
to investigate. It is rich with history and ghost lore. The
history of the hotel can be found on our first investigation
report in September of 2006.
Since this was our third trip to the hotel, we decided to take
a different approach and try a few new things. We rented
rooms 551 (the wallpaper room) 552, and 417. Using our
infrared night vision systems, we set up cameras along with
two infrared motion sensors in 551 and placed a 24x36
poster on the precious wallpaper. We set up our command
center in 552 so we could monitor 551 and send a team in if
any activity was observed.
The second thing we did differently, was utilize what we
affectionately call a "sleeper." Debbie's husband, Jeff
volunteered to sleep in room 417 while we monitored him
from 552 using wireless audio and video equipment. It
takes an enormous amount of courage to go into a
purportedly haunted hotel room and try to sleep while
people are watching you and listening to every little sound in
the room and we give Jeff kudos for volunteering. In order to
commemorate Jeff's position and ensure he'd be
comfortable while sleeping, we had a pair of shorts
designed just for this occasion.
Clarissa was able to arrange for a tour of the hotel and we
were taken on a trip through history by Leonard, a hotel
employee who was kind enough to show us around after his
shift was over. During the final segment of the tour, we were
leaving the area of the former morgue when Clarissa felt
someone walk past her and place their hand on her back as
they walked by. Because she was operating an antiquated
Hi-8 camera, she wasn't able to clearly see who had walked
past her since she had one eye closed and the other on the
viewfinder. She had thought that maybe it was Debbie who
had walked past her and turned around to talk to her, only to
find that there was absolutely no one else in that area
behind her. Everyone else was 5-10 feet down the hall in
front of her.
After the tour, we separated into teams and took turns
investigating the hotel in 2 hour intervals, maintaining
contact with the command center via two-way radio. The
first team was responsible for investigating the basement,
lobby, and second floors. The second team was
responsible for investigating the third, fourth and fifth floors.
The third team would maintain the command center.
While checking out the emergency stairway, both Chade
and Debbie felt as if they were being held back from going
up or down the stairwell. This only lasted a few moments
and they were able to complete that section of the
investigation.
The hotel was booked completely the night we were there
and we were not able to investigate other hot areas such as
the bell tower suites and room 558 where a male apparition
has been spotted on several occasions. We were able to
check out both attic areas and go deep into the former
morgue area while on our tour.
Since we only had personal experiences and collected no
concrete data on this trip, we will be exploring the history of
the Hotel on a more in depth level. We learned more about
some of the ghost lore and are definitely wanting to explore
more into the history trying to debunk some of the rumors
surrounding the hauntings.
